Capturing the Wedding and Honeymoon: What Multi-Day Wedding Photography Looks Like

There’s a certain magic that comes from documenting a wedding over several days rather than just a single event.

When the timeline stretches beyond the ceremony and reception, the photography transforms into a full narrative, one that captures the energy of travel, the small in-between moments, and the atmosphere of the destination itself. That’s what makes multi-day wedding photography so special.

This approach is especially meaningful for destination weddings, where the celebration often unfolds across multiple days and locations.

Think adventurous welcome dinners, day-after portraits, or even honeymoon sessions that allow couples to enjoy their setting without the pressure of a wedding-day schedule.

My time photographing in Antigua and Lake Atitlán in Guatemala brought this to life in the most unforgettable way. It was all about telling the complete story of their wedding experience from start to finish through multi-day wedding photos.

What Is Multi-Day Wedding Photography?

Multi-day wedding photography (or multi-day wedding coverage) extends beyond the single wedding day to capture the entire experience.

This often includes welcome parties, pre-wedding adventures, and day-after portrait sessions—anything that brings the couple’s story to life.

For destination weddings, where friends and family often travel to celebrate for a whole weekend or longer, this type of coverage ensures no moment is left behind.

Unlike traditional wedding photography, which has to fit everything into one day, multi-day wedding photos allow for a slower, more intentional pace.

It captures everything from cultural experiences to intimate, candid moments that naturally unfold when there isn’t a tight timeline.

Wedding Day in Antigua, Guatemala

One of my favorite examples of multi-day destination photography is April and Brett’s celebration in Antigua, Guatemala.

Their wedding weekend perfectly showcased how multi-day coverage allows you to slow down, enjoy the moment, and capture the essence of both the couple and the location.

April and Brett’s wedding in Antigua was the kind of day that photographers dream about—equal parts relaxed, joyful, and visually stunning.

From the moment I met them, it felt like we were friends on a trip together rather than just photographer and clients. Their easygoing energy set the tone for everything, and it made the entire experience feel effortless and genuine.

The ceremony took place at Convento Santa Clara, a 17th-century convent turned cultural landmark that’s one of Antigua’s most breathtaking venues. The architecture alone is enough to stop you in your tracks with its arched stone walls, historic ruins, and centuries of history create an atmosphere that’s impossible to replicate.

Watching April walk down the aisle surrounded by such beauty, while soft golden light spilled through the courtyard, felt like a scene straight out of a movie.

After the ceremony, we took advantage of Antigua’s charm by wandering its cobblestone streets. April and Brett, still in their wedding attire, strolled hand in hand as we captured a mix of romantic and candid shots under the glow of string lights and colorful colonial facades.

It was the perfect ending to a day that felt both historic and deeply personal.

Honeymoon Portraits at Lake Atitlán

The next day, we extended their gallery with honeymoon portraits at Lake Atitlán. This is where multi-day wedding photography really shines. There’s no timeline stress, just time to explore and capture the experience as it happens.

The pace was slower, the energy lighter. It was all about documenting their first adventure as newlyweds. We explored Reserva Natural Atitlán, a nature preserve tucked into the jungle with waterfalls, monkeys, and stunning greenery. Then we wandered through San Juan La Laguna, where we followed April and Brett as they explored local markets, hopped into tuk-tuks, and tried different street foods.

We didn’t stick to a strict plan. We paused for quick mini-photoshoots whenever we saw cool backdrops, but for the most part, I let them enjoy the day while I captured what unfolded.

The day ended at Mirador Kaqasiiwaan, where the view over Lake Atitlán at sunset was absolutely unforgettable. Some of my favorite photos from the entire trip were taken during the boat rides across the lake, the wind in their hair, their laughter, and the reflections on the water made for pure magic.

Why Multi-Day Wedding Coverage Makes a Difference

Getting multi-day wedding photos doesn’t just give you more pictures to choose from, it gives you a richer, fuller story.

Here’s why couples planning destination weddings love this approach:

  • You really get to know your photographer. By day two or three, you feel so comfortable that the best, most natural photos just happen.
  • Your gallery becomes a time capsule. It’s not just about the wedding day; it’s about the trip, the culture, and the memories.
  • It turns your wedding into an experience. You’re celebrating your marriage and the destination you’ve chosen in a way that feels intentional and true to you.
  • You leave the rulebook behind. There’s no pressure to fit everything into one day or check all the “traditional” boxes.

What It’s Like to Work With Me as a Destination Wedding Photographer

When I photograph multi-day wedding coverage or destination weddings, I make the process simple and stress-free. I create custom all-inclusive packages that cover travel and logistics, so there are no hidden details to manage.

If you don’t have a planner, I’m often helping create a timeline that balances both exploring and getting the best possible photos.

I scout photo locations, keep an eye on the best lighting, and make sure you can enjoy the day while I document it all. My goal is to be a calm, fun presence who blends in — someone who feels like a friend on the trip, not just a vendor.
